In her position as DFF, Jami has a special concentration on programs for children, youth, and adults. She brings to her ministry work a lifelong experience with the Moravian Church, as well as training and experience in music education. Jami grew up in Ohio as a member of Dover First Moravian Church. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Bowling Green State University. Additionally, she completed a Master’s in Music Education from Kent State University with a focus on accommodating students with special needs in the elementary classroom. She previously taught k-12 music in public education and served as Director of Church Music. In 2020, Jami completed additional coursework and training modules to be installed as a Certified Church Educator of the MCSP.
Outside of the local church, Jami is involved with Moravian camp programming at Laurel Ridge, as well as several provincial committees on ministry, education, and music. Jami is strongly committed to the work of APCE (Association of Partners in Christian Education), serving the ecumenical organization in roles of conference leadership and strategic planning.
The prominence and preservation of music traditions is one of the most important reasons Jami continues to be drawn to the Moravian Church. Jami and her husband, Kurt, enjoy traveling, hiking, gardening, and cheering on the Carolina Hurricanes with their two busy children. Amongst her favorite passages of scripture is Isaiah 50:4: "The Lord God has given me the tongue of a teacher, that I may know how to sustain the weary with a word."
