What the Moravian Church believes

The Moravian Church stands in the mainstream of Protestant Christianity. Recognizing the historic creeds of the Church, we believe that salvation is through Jesus Christ and that the Christian Church is the fellowship of believers who share this experience. We recognize the Bible as the witness to God's self revelation and as the guide for Christians today.

The website of the Moravian Church, Southern Province, includes a page entitled What we believe, which has links to The Ground of the Unity and The Moravian Convenant for Christian Living. The Moravian Church in America website has additional information that you may find helpful, including "A short introduction to the history, customs, and practices of the Moravian Church" by Herbert Spaugh.

The Moravian Motto

In Essentials, Unity;
In Non-essentials, Liberty;
In All Things, Love.

An "essential" in the Moravian Church is an active, meaningful, heartfelt relationship with our crucified and risen savior, Jesus Christ. All aspects of the Church's life, including worship, sacraments, fellowship, liturgy, and the Bible support this central tenet of faith.
