The Flower Shuttle is a Community Outreach Program and is open to the entire Triangle area. Volunteers recycle fresh flowers after events such as church services, weddings, funerals, and galas into small bouquets that are delivered to Hospice, Wake Medical Center, Good Shepherd Soup Kitchen, Urban Ministries, Raleigh Dialysis, Alliance of AIDS Services-Carolina Under One Roof Program, Meals on Wheels, Duke Children's Hospital, the VA Hospital, and various rehab centers and nursing homes in our area. In some cases, recipients tell us this is the first time they have ever been given flowers.
Volunteers meet at Raleigh Moravian every Tuesday from 9:30 - 11:30am to recycle the flowers donated for that week. Anyone is welcome to bring clippers and join the group. The first Tuesday of each month, everyone is encouraged to bring a bag lunch and enjoy a Mini Class instructed by a professional flower designer. This is a great opportunity to get to know one another and learn new flower techniques and skills.
Volunteers are needed for flower pick ups, rearranging, deliver, assistance with the Speaker's Bureau, fundraising, and many other jobs. If you are interested in being involved with this heartwarming project, please visit the web site at www.theflowershuttle.com to learn more.
