Sunday School - Moravain 550: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow
Since the Moravian Church will celebrate her 550th anniversary in 2007 three favorite topics are combined to make an enjoyable and informative class: history, music and mission. Have you ever wondered about the design of the pastor’s surplice (white robe worn during Communion)? How do our hymns both declare our faith and celebrate Moravian history as in the hymn written in 1467, “Join We All with One Accord”? Do you know where Moravians are in the world, why they arrived in those locations, and how are we reaching out in serving around the world today? If you answered “yes” then you need to come to this class!
Location: Fellowship Hall
Sunday School - Faithful Reflections (A Discussion Class)
This class will discuss various issues that bring us face-to-face with questions of how faith is lived within day-to-day life. Ray Ansley will lead the first few weeks using the readings from “Listening to God” volume 4. This book is a collection of eight contemporary short stories that provide much food for thought. Once this book is completed the class will decide the next selection to read. Class members will be able to bring topics to class for discussion.
Location: room 18
Sunday School Fellowship
This group meets in room 12 to share a cup of coffee and to talk about their week. This is a good group to get to know choir or band members that must sneak out before a regular class would be finished. This is a happy group of people! They welcome new arrivals into their fellowship.
Ladies Wednesday Morning Study
This small group study uses the bible study published for the Women’s Fellowship of the Moravian Church. They meet twice a month. See calendar for their schedule.
Mid-Week Studies
Small groups gather in homes to strength ties in Christian Communities and to study together.
Bethel Bible Series
"The mission of the Bethel Series is to lead members
of a local parish into disciplined study of Scripture
in such a way that they encounter the Living Christ." Registration is required. For more information, please refer to the Bethel Bible Series website.
During our last goal setting program, RMC members voiced the desire to have an intensive Bible study that would equip them to understand the major themes of the Bible, provide tools to study the Bible, and a guide to read the Bible. The Bethel Bible Series was chosen as the means to achieve this goal. The Board enrolled Raleigh Moravian in the Bethel program and in the summer of 2000 sent Craig and Joyce for a ten-day training seminar. Our teacher training class began in January of 2001. Joyce and Craig have trained a group of teachers, who have started several very successful classes.
Q. What is the Bethel Bible Series study?
A. It’s an overview of the Bible – from Genesis to Revelation – designed to help you better understand God’s plan. One participant said, "The Bethel Bible Series really put the pieces together for me. My faith started to make sense 24-hours-a-day, seven days a week – not just when I was inside the walls of the church."
Q. I haven’t read my Bible very much lately. Will I be able to understand what’s presented in class?
A. The Bethel Bible Series makes the Bible user-friendly. You’ll receive a handout each week to guide you through each study. You will be asked to read portions of the Bible each week. Your teacher will use a
colorful poster to reinforce the basic concepts. The Scriptures will come alive as you share this experience
with others in your class.
Q. How much time is required for the Bethel Bible Series class?
A. The Bethel Bible Series is taught in six, seven-week semesters. You sign up for only one seven-week class at a time. The first class will be taught beginning in March. It will meet for one hour each week. There
will be suggested reading assignments to help you gain the most benefit from this class. There are no tests.
You decide how much time you can commit to work outside of class but the more you read the assignments; the more you’ll grow with the program.
Class schedule TBA!
